VOLUNTEERS TOOK TO THE STREETS OF SORGUN
As part of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) program supported by the European Commission, volunteers from our You FuTuRe project—led by the Sorgun Youth Association (SORGED)—took to the streets of Sorgun to raise public awareness about disasters!
Our volunteers, who come from different countries, shared the knowledge and experience they gained during training sessions conducted in collaboration with AFAD with the people of Sorgun.
During the awareness-raising activities held on the streets, they engaged in one-on-one conversations with citizens to discuss:
????How prepared we are for disasters as individuals and as families,
????The importance of preparing a disaster and emergency kit,
????Family disaster plans and emergency assembly points,
????Common misconceptions about disasters,
????The relationship between climate change and disaster risks,
????Our community’s level of knowledge and awareness regarding disasters.
Through surveys, Q&A sessions, and interactive awareness activities, our volunteers listened to the thoughts of the people of Sorgun regarding disasters, while also highlighting how simple precautions taken before a disaster can save lives.
With You FuTuRe, our goal is not just to talk about disasters; it’s to take action together to build a more informed, prepared, and resilient community!
Because disaster preparedness begins not during a disaster, but before it happens.
