Our Volunteers Are Takıng Search and Rescue Traınıng!
As part of the “You FuTuRe – Protect Your Future with Disaster Awareness” project, carried out within the framework of the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) and supported by the European Commission, our new group of volunteers participated in practical training sessions on disaster awareness and search and rescue.
As part of the programme, interactive demonstrations and practical sessions were first conducted by the Yozgat Bozok University Search and Rescue Dogs Training Coordination Unit (GÖKAK). The important role of search and rescue dogs in saving lives during disasters was highlighted.
Our volunteers learned about the training and pre-mission preparation processes of search and rescue dogs, their roles in search and rescue operations, and the importance of teamwork in the field.
The training sessions also covered the correct actions to be taken before, during, and after an earthquake, as well as disaster awareness and search and rescue procedures.
As the programme continued, expert trainers from the Yozgat Provincial Directorate of AFAD provided our volunteers with earthquake search and rescue training. In addition to theoretical knowledge, our volunteers had the opportunity to closely examine and experience the methods and equipment used in search and rescue operations through practical activities.
Practical climbing and descending exercises were also carried out, allowing our volunteers to gain valuable field experience in safe movement, equipment use, and teamwork.
Through these training sessions, our volunteers from different countries not only became more aware and better prepared for disasters, but also experienced firsthand the importance of proper intervention, solidarity, and teamwork during emergency situations.
We would like to sincerely thank Dr. Mehmet İnan, Coordinator of the Yozgat Bozok University Search and Rescue Dogs Training Coordination Unit, and the GÖKAK trainers for their valuable contributions and for sharing their knowledge and experience with our volunteers.
We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to the expert trainers of the Yozgat Provincial Directorate of AFAD for providing practical training in disaster awareness and search and rescue.
